Ms. Leonard joined the firm in December of 2007. Ms. Leonard came to the firm with a very distinguished background, having previously been recognized as a specialist in insurance coverage and having clerked with prominent law firms in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
With regard to her practice, Ms. Leonard began practice in Louisiana. Ms. Leonard joined the firm of Voorhies and Labbe in Lafayette, Louisiana where she practiced as a litigator in insurance defense and became a partner in the firm. Ms. Leonard specialized in insurance coverage issues and also represented the City of Lafayette in matters ranging from transactional issues to civil rights defense and environmental contamination cases. In 1991 Ms. Leonard opened her own insurance defense law firm. While maintaining her own firm in Louisiana, Ms. Leonard also completed mediation training with the Mediator's Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico and undertook licensure in New Mexico and Colorado. Ms. Leonard had success as a mediator in personal injury cases, business disputes and domestic matters. During this time, Ms. Leonard also worked with the Colorado Firm of Maguire and Rabun to assist them with litigation in construction defect cases, employment disputes and domestic matters. In October of 2004 Ms. Leonard secured an opportunity with the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission to assist in issues regarding interstate water rights disputes. Having secured this opportunity, Ms. Leonard closed her practice in Louisiana and relocated to New Mexico.
